Moving Company Recommendation
We got estimates from three moving companies when we moved from Los Angeles to Basalt. The lowest estimate (a guaranteed “Not to Exceed” price) came from Bekins. We used Bekins to move us and were pleased – nothing broken (we packed everything ourselves) and courteous service on both ends of the move. The local Bekins agent is in Glenwood Springs at 970-945-7543.
How to ship your car
We shipped one of our cars from LA to Basalt when we moved. I found that the moving company that transports your household goods will charge a lot more than a dedicated auto transport company. I used the services of Direct Express Auto Transport and was pleased with their service. The driver came directly to our house, loaded the car and called me when he dropped the car off in Basalt. You have to pay the driver upon delivery, so if you don’t have anyone in your new town to receive the car, you will have to pay the driver up-front (a bit disconcerting, but I felt confident that I’d see my car again after getting good customer service on the phone and in person with the driver.
